Membership CRM for the Association of Management and Professional Staffs (AMPS)

In summary

A bespoke Memba CRM implementation enabled AMPS to unify membership management, streamline operations, and deliver a scalable digital platform for growth and member engagement.

The backstory

The Association of Management and Professional Staffs (AMPS) is a national branch of Unite the Union, representing professionals across scientific, pharmaceutical, and related industries. With a membership base of around one thousand users, AMPS plays a critical role in supporting its members through advice, representation, and communication.

In 2020, AMPS approached Sandlebridge to redevelop their membership platform, seeking a more modern, efficient solution that could support both recruitment and ongoing member administration.

Their requirement extended beyond a simple website—they needed a fully integrated system that could act as both a public-facing recruitment tool and a secure internal portal for managing members and services.

The Challenge

AMPS required a robust membership platform capable of handling sign-ups, subscriptions, and secure access to gated content, all within a single system.

They needed to manage multiple membership plans, including part-time and full-time options, with secure online payment processing. At the same time, the organisation required a way to share private documents with members, track subscriptions accurately, and maintain an engaging public-facing website to attract new members.

The absence of a unified system created inefficiencies, limited scalability, and made it difficult to deliver a seamless experience for both administrators and members.

Outcomes & Benefits

Solution provided

Following a detailed consultancy and discovery phase, we implemented a bespoke solution using Memba CRM, tailored specifically to AMPS’ operational needs. The platform combined a custom-designed public website with a secure member portal, creating a seamless experience across both recruitment and administration.

The system enabled AMPS to configure features precisely to their requirements, including custom registration processes, secure online payments, gated content, and integrated blog functionality. Importantly, unused features could be switched off, giving the organisation flexibility while maintaining a clean and focused user experience.

We also migrated existing membership data from multiple legacy sources, integrated Mailchimp for communications, and delivered a fully hosted and managed solution with high availability and low ongoing maintenance overhead.

Outcomes & Benefits

The new platform transformed how AMPS manages its membership operations. Administrative processes such as member sign-ups, subscription tracking, and content distribution are now centralised and significantly more efficient.

Members benefit from a more professional and accessible digital experience, with secure access to relevant content and clearer communication channels. The integration of payments and membership management has reduced manual workload while improving accuracy and reliability.

The organisation now has full visibility over its membership data, enabling more informed decision-making and improved engagement with its community.

Strategic impact

The implementation of Memba CRM has provided AMPS with a scalable digital infrastructure that supports both current operations and future growth. The ability to enable or disable features as needed ensures the platform can evolve alongside the organisation.

By consolidating systems into a single environment, AMPS has reduced operational complexity and strengthened control over its data and processes. This positions the organisation to expand its services, improve member retention, and enhance its role as a leading UK trade union in its sector.

Crucially, the platform supports AMPS’ long-term strategic objectives by aligning technology with member needs—creating a more agile, responsive, and future-ready organisation.
