Background

ALLMI - The Association of Lorry Loader Manufacturers and Importers (ALLMI) was founded in 1978 at the request of the Health and Safety Executive, and it remains today as the UK’s only Trade Association devoted exclusively to the lorry loader industry. It serves, represents and promotes the interests of its members and the industry at large, and it is the natural focus and authority on all issues involving the design, manufacture, application and use of lorry loaders.

The Brief

Our brief was to produce a ground-up redesign and rebuild, which involved migrating the website from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 3. This involved a lot of code-refactoring of custom extensions and an API that connects data from the website with the ALLMI mobile app.

The project started with a complete redesign of the front end. This was a significant undertaking, in terms of content management as the site is extensive with several hundred pages of unique content. The overall objective of the website was to bring the user experience up to date and in the process, upgrade the Joomla content management system to the very latest stable version.

Solution

One of the main challenges lay in the organisation of content, and making it easy for users to navigate around the website. To help accomplish this, we designed a bespoke mega-menu and re-organised content into core sections based on an understanding of important user journeys. The user interface (UI) was given a complete overhaul, to male it easy and intuitive for members find the content they needed. The website also has various interactive features, such as Verify a Card feature that allows members to verify the qualifications and credentials of another member. There is also a custom API, lift calculator tools and an online store.
